MBBS Internship in India: Candidates pursuing MBBS from any Medical College in India are required to complete Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI). After completing the MBBS course, candidates must get a registration certificate from the Medical Council of India. The registration certificate is awarded only to the MBBS graduate who has completed the rotatory internship of 12 months. MBBS graduate can become a practitioner of medicine only after he owns the registration certificate issued by MCI.

Internship refers to a training programme in which an MBBS graduate is able to learn methods/modalities to administer actual practice of medical and health care. CRRI programme by MCI is introduced to acquire skills under the supervision of professionals, which may help the graduate become capable of practising medicine independently.

MBBS Internship in India – What is a Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI)?

During the internship, the MBBS graduate is subject to be posted in multiple clinical departments on a rotatory basis. Satisfying the major objective of an internship is attaining basic clinical experience in all the major disciplines. Completing the rotatory internship is a prerequisite for obtaining a license to practise medicine. Also, CRRI is a necessary eligibility criterion for pursuing postgraduation studies.

After qualifying the MBBS exit examination, the graduate is awarded a registration certificate (provisional) by the Medical Council of India (MCI) or any State medical council prevailing in India. Once the candidate holds the provisional registration certificate, they will be marked eligible for starting the internship.

After the M.B.B.S. graduates obtain the CRRI completion certificate, MCI issues the permanent registration certificate. A permanent registration certificate leads to the issuance of the license to practice medicine along with the final M.B.B.S. degree.
