 Calculation of CST

Calculating sales tax can be done with a simple formula mentioned below:

Total Sales Tax = Cost of item x Sales tax rate.

Solved Example:

Q) Find the tax paid by Neeraj for a chair if the chair’s selling price is Rs. 5000, and the tax rate is 5%?

A): Given that the selling price = Rs. 5000 and tax rate = 5%. We always calculate tax on the selling price. Thus, the tax paid by Neeraj for the chair is: Tax amount = Rs.{S.P. × (Tax rate/100) = Rs.{5000 × (5/100) = Rs.250. Therefore, Neeraj  needs to pay Rs. 250 tax on the purchase of a chair.

Practice Exam Questions

Time Zones

The Earth is divided into 24 meridians that are 15° apart. Each zone represents one hour. The international date line is the 180° longitude meridian from the north pole to the south pole through the Pacific Ocean. It is located on the opposite side of the globe from the Greenwich meridian.

Calculation of Time Zones

The width of time zones varies, but they are generally 15° wide with different distances. Moving towards the east, into a different timezone, adds one hour. Moving one hour west results in the subtraction of one hour. The Earth can be depicted as a 360° circle. For example – positions up to 180° west and east are calculated, with London set to 0°. If a site is 90° away, it is a quarter of a 360° circle. 1/4 of a day is 6 hours and the other location is most likely (but not always) 6 time zones distant.
